Where's the Snow?

It feels strange driving from Holland to Grand Rapids.

They didn't get any of the snow we did.
There's only a little bit from a fall two weeks ago.

How to Find a Car in a Parking Lot

This is what my car looked like after 48 hours of constant snow.

I started looking for it by using a shovel...

Look at all the snow I shovelled off of my car!

A scraper works well for clearing off the windows.

Living on the Lake

We have gotten at least a foot of snow over the past 24 hours, if not more.
I cleared my car off twice yesterday.
At 11:00pm it had about 1" of snow cover. It's once again buried.

The kids are going to have fun playing in all of this white stuff.

Christmas Vespers

I enjoyed an evening of Christmas Vespers
with Stephen and his parents.
They had some beautiful music.

Welcome Winter!

Yesterday I didn't wear a coat - today we woke up to this:
Our first real snowfall! Welcome December!

How Many Seminarians Fit in a Tree?

Student Council organised a hike.

Jeff is showing off what I thought were odd signs.
I didn't know hiking trails could be one-way.
They also had signs for when the trails were for two-way traffic.

An outlook.

Boys will be boys.

Our group - minus me
(I forgot my tripod, and I gave up on the one we made out of sticks)

We went to a berry store to buy cranberries and other berries.
I can't remember the name of this product, but it's nice to know that no raccoons were vexed, perplexed or unmasked in its making.

Roommate Shopping

I went roommate grocery shopping with my "other roommates"
(Jen, Lindsey, and Joellen). We had some fun on the bench
while waiting for Joellen.

Sailing on Lake Michigan

It was a beautiful day out today, so we decided to go sailing.
This may be the last good sailing day of the season.

It was a bit chilly, but definitely a lot of fun.

This is one of my favourite pictures from the day.

Youth LYNC

I was at a conference this week in Illinois.

We were mostly in this building - the ARC

They have lots of picnic shelters

...and cabins.

Around Home

Driving home from a little "Canadian" shopping spree
I spotted this beautiful rainbow.

I got stuck behind the road graters

Our farm

Fall has some beautiful colours.

Homecoming

Marc was pretty excited that Mom & I were coming home.
(Mom was in Pennsylvania, I was at school)

What happened to my room?

This is what happens when you move out...
Brothers take over!

A Little bit of Home in the USA

Joellen & I spent the day cooking up lots of good stuff
to celebrate Thanksgiving!

We had crock pots all over the house (we wanted to avoid tripping any breakers)
The one closest had a carrot dish (delicious!)
The next had hot apple cider
The last one had German Potato Salad
(we had to have some Poot family tradition in there as well)

We also had two more crocks with stuffing, and another dish with sweet potatoes & apple. They didn't make it into any pictures though, so you'll have to use your imagination.

We had both Apple & Pumpkin pie

We were running out of places for food,
so these pies got to hang out on the bookshelf.

This is Fred when he was cold.
(Fred is a turkey)

This is Fred when he was hot!
He tasted very yummy.

Thanksgiving Prep

Joellen & I went on an epic adventure in search of
Thanksgiving food for our meal on Saturday.

Our adventures began in Nature's Market.
Here we found lots of Joellen-friendly food - including Cheese!

Our next stop was Meijer - we were amused by the pickles.
They're like snack-packs, except with pickles.
One kind was even kosher.

Turkeys! This is a must for Thanksgiving.

Two hours later....
Look at all our groceries!

...and then Joellen broke the checkout machine.
This added another 1/2 hour to our time spent at Meijer

And our grocery shopping adventure was suddenly over.
There was still room left in the fridge
(although there is also food in the freezer)

What's Wrong with This?

Joellen & I went on an epic adventure to the grocery store (more pictures to come later) and came across this Pie Shield. Make sure you read fine print before buying!
Notice anything?

(hint: click on picture to enlarge so you can see smaller print)

In Search of Fall Colours

I went for a walk this afternoon, but discovered there are a lot more green trees than coloured ones. A lot of the trees that turned red were a bit dull looking. I kind of liked this one though.

Pre-Rinse

I went to a friend's for lunch today after church,
and this really made me laugh, so I thought I'd share.

Canadian Friends

Marion & Marijke came for a conference at Western this weekend.

We eventually decided this sculpture was a modern interpretation of the anchor...
In other words, we don't really know what it is.
